Often refers to generational issues in the dreamer’s life

THE BIGGER PICTURE

When a deceased relative (usually a grandmother or grandfather) comes to you in a dream, the person often has a message to deliver about a spiritual inheritance or blessing. What is the inheritance or blessing? If you weren’t close to that relative, you may need to investigate his or her life and vocation, and ask questions about the relative’s hopes and aspirations.

DETAILS AND CONTEXT

A deceased relative (generational issue) can represent blessings or curses depending on the dream’s context. A spiritual inheritance is something passed through the family bloodline that can help you reach the fullness of who God created you to be. It can be a gift or calling that went unfulfilled in the relative’s life and is now available to you.

Does the deceased relative (generational issue) represent a blessing, curse, or calling? The dream’s details and context will often tell you what you need to know.

What was the relative doing in the dream (the person’s actions or behavior)? What did the person tell you (directly or indirectly)? How did you feel when you saw the person in the dream? Answering these questions can help you determine whether the generational issue being revealed is positive (blessings) or negative (curses).

Did the relative give you something or leave anything for you? Clothing—particularly items you wear over your shoulders like a coat—can represent a mantle, which is a type of inheritance or calling passed from one person to another. (For a biblical example, read the story of Elijah and Elisha in 1 Kings 19 and 2 Kings 2.)

It is also not unusual for a deceased relative to appear in your dream simply to bring healing and closure to your relationship. This could come through a comforting embrace, or perhaps the person appears full of life and light to tell you he or she is in a better place.

CALL TO ACTION

A huge difference exists between a deceased relative coming to you in a dream and asking a psychic (in real life) to help you speak to someone who has passed (1 Samuel 28:7). This is the difference between revelation from God and witchcraft (necromancy). The Bible is clear that we are not to seek out the dead. However, in His divine sovereignty, God can bring our loved ones to us in a dream.

If a deceased loved one has come to you in a dream, ask God to reveal His purpose in bringing that person. If the dream left you with a positive feeling, speak to God about the blessing or calling you are to walk in from your family line. If it was a negative experience, ask God to reveal to you the curse that needs to be broken from your family line so you can experience the blessings He wants to give you.
